The regions of Rissani and Merzouga have a great deal to offer the travelling birdwatcher enthusiast with lots of varied habitats with many quality species. The best time for birdwatching in the desert are at the end of winter and the begining spring when the migrants are back.
Merzouga Area
MERZOUGA is a small village in southeastern Morocco, about 35 kilometers southeast of Rissani, about 55 kilometers from Erfoud, and about 50 kilometers from the Algerian border.
The village is most famous for Erg Chebbi, a Saharan erg, and
it is for this reason a part of the itineraries of many tourists visiting
Morocco. Merzouga also has the largest natural body of water in Morocco. Rissani area
RISSANI is a town in eastern Morocco, located near Erfoud. It is in the region of Er-Rachidia, on the edge of the Erg Chebbi, the largest sand desert in Morocco.
The mausoleum of the founder of the Alaouite Dynasty of Morocco, Moulay Ali
Cherif, is located on the southern edge of town.
